Fast From Wrong thinking

Today we're fasting from the thought that says: "My life is not as good as others." ("I'm not as well off, pretty or successful. My life is not as easy or fun. Things seem to work out for them better than me.") Friends, this is a deadly way of thinking that we are going to stop TODAY. The same people that you think are better off than you, may look at you the same way. You have no idea what goes on on the inside of others. But more importantly, you have the life that God gave you, and nobody can be better at it, than you. Let's take this thought captive. How? Give up the temptation to compare yourself to others. Society trains us to compare ourselves to one another. But 2 Corinthians 10:12 says that when we do this, we are without understanding. And understanding is what gives us the power to be happy and free (Proverbs 3:13-19). Free yourself today from the comparison trap. We'll come back to this more later during our fast, but lets start by ABSTAINING FROM COMPARISONS. (her figure, his money, their marriage, their children, their college, she's a better mother, he's a better dad, etc.). When you compare, you despair. Realize God has reserved a special gift and portion for you that no one can take. (1 Samuel 9:23-24) There is a portion reserved for you. Live your life to please God. 2 Corinthians 5:9 says "We have this as our ambition - to be pleasing to God." When you are busy living to please Him, you no longer focus on what other people are experiencing; or how you stack up against them. Stop living for the respect and esteem of others. He is not looking at how you compare to others, but He is looking at whether you believe Him, trust Him, and HONOR Him. Colossians 3:1-2 says "If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." You see, we need to be eternally minded. When you read a promise in scripture, TAKE IT PERSONALLY. Put your name in it, and accept that God is writing to you: take for example Luke 12:42 which says "YOUR heavenly Father, has chosen gladly to give you the Kingdom!" James 1:17 says "Every good and perfect gift comes from above from the Father of lights, in whom there is no shifting shadow of turning." Stop thinking backwards. This means, stop looking at what you DON'T have, and START TODAY looking at what you do have. You have eternal life. You are God's son or daughter. You are part of a spiritual family. You are a part of a REVOLUTION - FROM THE INSIDE OUT. Thinking this way, creates an attitude of faith for all that God has for you. Think this and say this: "I am secure. I have a special gift and treasure that God has given me. There is a portion and a place in God.s kingdom reserved for me. I have a GREAT life, because God is my Father, and He has chosen gladly to give me His Kingdom. I am lacking nothing and therefore I am not jealous or envious of what ANYONE else has!" Burn Brightly

BURN BRIGHTLY

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.(JOHN 9:5)Jesus said, "While I have been here, the kingdom has been here, and light has been shining in darkness. I'm leaving soon, but don't worry. I'm going to light candlesticks that will shine into the darkness, decadence and degradation. Even though darkness presses in around them, it cannot extinguish their light." You say, "I don't have a dollar to change." What an opportunity for your light to shine! The doctors say you will not live much longer. What an opportunity to burn brightly! "I lost my job." What an opportunity! When things are darkest in your life, you have the opportunity to shine the most brightly for Jesus. Refuse to give your attention to the dark area in your life. Look to the Light--Jesus Christ--who dispels all darkness and lights your life as a powerful witness for Him.LORD JESUS, YOU HAVE MADE ME A CANDLE TO LIGHT THE DARKNESS OF THIS WORLD. HELP ME TO EMBRACE THE NIGHTFALL SO I CAN SHINE THROUGH THE DARKNESS, SHEDDING YOUR LIGHT IN THE HEARTS OF THE LOST AND DRAWING THEM INTO THE BRIGHTNESS OF YOUR PRESENCE. AMEN.Posted by Tammy in VA

Stubbornness

Stubbornness
“For people who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, there'll come a day when life tumbles in and they break, but by then it'll be too late to help them.”---Proverbs 29:1 (Message)
“A man will do more for his stubbornness than for his religion or his country.”---Edgar Watson Howe
“Stubbornness does have its helpful features. You always know what you're going to be thinking tomorrow.”---Glen Beaman
Who woulda thunk it? That the next word on the life agenda for me would be stubbornness? Yeah, I bet you are already thinking of (at least) three people that you could/should forward this message on to, but it has a twist. Trust me.
A wise man once said that if you want to know how hard it is to change someone, you should start with trying to change yourself. (Matthew 7:3-5) I conquer. I used to wonder why a lot of people were fat until I tried losing ten pounds. I used to wonder why a lot of people were sexually reckless until I tried abstinence. I used to wonder why a lot of people let others run their lives until I started taking a stand on some things that weren't so popular to the masses. (The Message Version of Luke 6:26 got me pretty straight on that one, though!) It's so easy to judge (Matthew 7:2) when you are not experiencing the situation for yourself, no doubt.
But sometimes you will witness something so crazy that you couldn't relate to it even if you wanted to. It doesn't require a psychology degree. Just a little common sense, and you can't figure out for the life of you why the people involved don't get it.
Where am I going with this? Sit tight.
You know, it's amazing the things we will put on God that totally contradict what the Word says about his nature. One of them is that we should do things in faith, even if they lack in common sense; even though the Word says that God is a well full of the very thing we often ignore:
“God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding. He's a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere. He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.”---Proverbs 2:6-8 (Message)
Throughout this year, I have been giving people in my space dream journals. There is a particular one that has a message on its cover that I just love: “Where truth and desire meet, dreams are born.” I truly believe (John 8:32) that it takes both truth and desire to receive the things that God has for us. You can want something all day long, but if you're wanting God's blessing on it, you have make sure that it lines up with truth; not yours, or even man's (no matter who the man may be), but his. (Psalm 33:4) I think one truth that a lot of us were not properly taught is that faith and common sense go hand-in-hand. Maybe we miss that because a lot of us don't know what common sense really is (especially as it relates to the Word):
Common Sense: sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like; normal native intelligence.
It's close to hilarious the fact that those two words are even placed together because I personally agree with Voltaire when he says that among many of us, “Common sense is not so common”. When you look at the definition above, there are three words that I want to focus on as it relates to this message: sound, practical and judgment.
It freed me up several weeks ago when I realized that when God said that he gave me not the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7), one of the definitions of “sound” is “to investigate”. When you investigate something, you “examine, study, or inquire into systematically; search or examine into the particulars of; examine in detail”. Do you know how many times I have done something calling it “faith” when I didn't take the time to investigate it, first? Something that God said he gave me the power to do?
The second word is “practical”. I John 2:15-17 (Message) says this:
“Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.”
One definition of practical that I love is, “mindful of the results, usefulness, advantages or disadvantages, etc., of action or procedure”. Do you know how many times I have claimed something “in faith” without asking God to reveal to me the results, the usefulness, the advantages/disadvantages of it? See, the thing about the way “the world” operates is that it sees things from a non-spiritual point of view. The Bible tells us that Holy Spirit teaches comparing spiritual things with spiritual (I Corinthians 2:13). A surefire way to test if what you want is in agreement with what God wants for you is if it lines up with spiritual principles. (Spiritually beneficial things will always prove to be useful and advantageous.)
And the final word is judgment. John 7:24 instructs us not to judge according to appearance, but with righteous judgment. Do you know how many times I have played with or stayed in straight up foolishness whether it be a relationship, a habit, a job or even an ideology all because of how it looked to me or how I thought it looked to others? I think perhaps one of the most comical things we can say to God is, “Well, the way I see it...” The way we see it is often flawed, limited and selfish because the flesh tends to be all of those things. (Galatians 6:8, I John 2:16)
Oh Lord, how I repent for all of the times that I have said, “I stand in faith believing you for something even though it lacks sound, practical judgment.” Even though it lacks all common sense!
When it comes to the definition of faith, the New Century Version has a great translation of Hebrews 11:1: “Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.” One verse that I really appreciate in this season of my life as it relates to “hope” is I John 3:2-3 (NKJV):
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
Sometimes I think, even when it comes to hoping, that we don't use common sense; especially the godly kind, the kind that purifies us and makes us like God. The Bible says that faith is being sure of the things that we hope for, right? Well, while hope does mean to desire or to want, it also means “to trust”, “to look forward with confidence” and to have “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best”. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Yeah, it's easy to believe that we are pleasing God when it comes to believing him for what we want. Oh, but what about the times when we are expected to believe God that the events will turn out for the best...even at the expense of what we want? Do you realize that when you refuse to do that, you are not pleasing God?
Yeah, it's hard to receive that side of faith, isn't it? And, that's where the word, “stubborn” comes in.
A couple of days ago, I read a really good article on Orato.com. It was called, “My Last Day As A Junkie”. In it, there was a line that has stayed with me on a pretty consistent basis: “I'm really, really trying, but that's the problem with junk; it's not a 'habit,' it's religion. I worship it.”
I wonder how many of us worship the religion of stubbornness. After all, all religion basically is, is something that you believe in or devoutly follow. Do you remember a few devotionals back, I shared a portion of a sermon that a friend of mine (Brian Watts) preached? It was about the five students of life (traditional, fair-weather, apathetic, legalistic, questioning). One of the things I loved that he said about his traditional math students is that whenever they were not open to other options, to trying things another way, to being flexible (check out the Message Version of Matthew 12:6-7, in context!), whenever they would say, “That is how I've always done it”, his response was, “And always doing it that way is what got you here...in the trouble you are in!”
Some of us are spiritually-stagnate at this very moment and it's all because we are stuck in the traditional way of thinking about things: money, provision, purpose, marriage, commitment, sex, communication, child-rearing, success, conflict, reconciliation, dating/courtship, friendship, helping, ministry, service, witnessing, health, answered prayers, unanswered prayers, timing, faith, peace, hope...oh, I could go on and on...and on and on. Our parents, our teachers, our family, our friends, our churches have told us things and we have accepted them at face value without stepping out on the sound, practical and judging power that God personally gave us; the wisdom that the Word says God gives to all of his children without fault-finding or criticism (James 1:5). The thing about spiritual wisdom is that while some of it corporately applies (like the Ten Commandments, for instance---Exodus 20), a lot of it is individual/couple/family-specific. Just look at what the word, “wisdom” means:
Wisdom: knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight. common sense; good judgment; a wise outlook, plan, or course of action.
The knowledge God gives me about my life may not be the exact same that he gives for yours. How he wants me to discern a situation may not be identical to the insight he gives you. (Did he tell Ruth to do the same thing to get her husband as he told Esther? Of course not!) A lot of us are so set in our ways, so traditional, so corporate-minded, so stubborn, that God can't move in the way that he would like because we have already decided, or we have let someone decide for us, how/when/where that should be.
I'm believing God for a Jag and that's that. So what if a Jag is not best-suited for my financial state?
I'm believing God for a specific man. So what if that man is crazy?
I'm believing God a raise/promotion. So what if that raise will make me so proud that I won't see the need for him anymore?
I have faith and that's all that matters. Is it? See in life, especially when it comes to what we want, we often see the first sentence, but God sees both. Ever heard the phrase “stuck on stupid”? Just because you are resolved on something, that doesn't automatically make it good, right, or best. A stubborn mentality is not a saintly one just because you call it that. I don't know about you, but I can't even remember hearing a sermon with biblical scriptures on a stubborn mentality, oh, but it exists:
“So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust and let them go after their own stubborn will, that they might follow their own counsels.”---Proverbs 81:12 (AMP)
“Yet they did not obey or incline their ear [to Me], but everyone walked in the stubbornness of his own evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all [the calamities threatened in] the words of this covenant or solemn pledge, which I had commanded, but they did not do.”---Jeremiah 11:8 (AMP)
“He said to them, Because of the hardness (stubbornness and perversity) of your hearts Moses permitted you to dismiss and repudiate and divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been so [ordained].”---Matthew 19:8 (AMP)
“You stubborn and stiff-necked people, still heathen and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you are always actively resisting the Holy Spirit. As your forefathers [were], so you [are and so you do]!”---Acts 7:51 (AMP)
“So then He has mercy on whomever He wills (chooses) and He hardens (makes stubborn and unyielding the heart of) whomever He wills.”---Romans 9:18 (AMP)
Stubborn: unreasonably obstinate; obstinately unmoving; fixed or set in purpose or opinion; resolute; difficult to manage or suppress; hard, tough, or stiff, as stone or wood; difficult to shape or work; difficult to treat or deal with; resistant to treatment or effort.
Synonyms of Stubborn: adamant, bullheaded, contemptuous, determined, fixed, grim, irreconcilable, ornery, pigheadedness, remorseless, unyielding.
Did you catch Proverbs 81:12? Because certain people had a stubborn, adamant, determined, fixed, irreconcilable, unyielding will, God let them follow their own counsel? How many of us, because we have decided how we believe something should go and have replaced God's will with ours, have ended up exchanging faith for flesh? How many of us have had pearls of wisdom (Matthew 7:6) laid before us and yet because we worship the religion of stubbornness, we have trampled on them like a herd of pigs (you did see one definition of “stubborn” is “pigheadedness”, right?) How many of us have volunteered to be a martyr for a cause that God never called us to? How many of us have been given a way of escape, but our pride prevents us from taking it? How many of us are self-victimized all because we have willed ourselves into a state of drama, confusion, abuse?
I am here to tell you that I am one of the many. Even as I am typing this, I am recalling situations that I am currently stubborn in. Areas where people have advised me wisely, but I have decided I want to do it my way. Circumstances where common sense is not saved or spent, but I have ignorantly or irreconcilably called it “faith” instead of what it really is: selfishness or fear. Times when I have said, “I am just gonna believe God” when really, I can't find any kind of biblical support for my stance or I have misread/not clearly defined what I have been (biblically) using/abusing to fit my cause/agenda.
Do you know why I believe the Holy Spirit led me to list the lead scripture that I did? Because it takes great discipline (Luke 14:33--AMP) to walk the fine line between godly faith and personal stubbornness; to surrender ALL, including what you think/feel/desire to God while being open to the fact that how you think it should go may not be the direction in which he leads you. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Now I see why Christ asked his disciples why they were so fearful, why they had such little faith in the midst of a storm. (Matthew 8:26) If it were really so easy as believing God for what we want until we get it, it wouldn't be so much of a struggle. Oh, but believing God for what's best, even if it results in not receiving what we want? That's something entirely different. We often quote Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together unless they be agreed?” but agreement with God means that we are leaving it up to him that even if it doesn't make initial sense to us, even if it goes against what we've been (poorly or inaccurately) taught, even if it bucks the system, even if it's just down right radical or even if it goes totally against what we would want, we are going to follow him anyway because he knows what's best.
As habitual, as religious as it may be, I have to admit that stubbornness hasn't really gotten me anywhere and I'm ready to move forward. I no longer want to be perceived by God or the wise counsel he places within my space as “unreasonable”, “unmoving”, “fixed in my opinion”, “difficult to manage, treat or deal with”. I don't want to be “resistant to treatment”, even if it's uncomfortable or goes against tradition. I don't want to be so set in my ways that I confuse faith in God with faith in my flesh (and the mini-gods that it serves—Exodus 20:3). I've created enough chaos in my life because of my hardness of heart (Proverbs 28:14) I want to be controllable, gentle, manageable, obedient, pliable, tractable, workable---with my God, myself and those around me. After all:
“Who in the world do you think you are to second-guess God? Do you for one moment suppose any of us knows enough to call God into question? Clay doesn't talk back to the fingers that mold it, saying, "Why did you shape me like this?" Isn't it obvious that a potter has a perfect right to shape one lump of clay into a vase for holding flowers and another into a pot for cooking beans? If God needs one style of pottery especially designed to show his angry displeasure and another style carefully crafted to show his glorious goodness, isn't that all right?”---Romans 9:20:24 (Message)
He's the potter, I'm just the clay. No point in getting “set” until he's done with his design. On his time, not mine. (Acts 1:7---Message)

If it Is God's Will by Shellie Warren

“If It’s God’s Will…”“No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ).”---I John 3:9-10 (AMP)“God has no use for the prayers of the people who won't listen to him.”---Proverbs 28:9 (Message)“God's will is not an itinerary, but an attitude.”---Andrew DhuseHead’s up, ya’ll: This one is not really a “warm fuzzy” message, but I think if you really pay close attention, when it comes to your life, it could provide you with a lot of clarity while sparing you a lot of pain and disappointment. It’s remarkable the things you can find out about/from God when you ask him. Correction: When you are abiding in him and ask him (John 15:7). Since making the concerted effort to apply his Word (and methods) to my life, revelations upon revelations have been pouring out. I’m not saying that to brag, but to encourage you that if you are seeking something from him and have not yet found it, do not be dismayed (Matthew 7:7-8). We serve a God who cannot lie (Hebrews 6:18) and he says that we can call upon him and he will answer us. (Jeremiah 33:3)However, I do want to remind you of the Message Version verse found in Proverbs (28:9). I don’t know about you, but there have been countless upon countless amounts of time when I have prayed and moved without waiting for a response from God; without receiving confirmation that he was in agreement. Take it from me and my Ph.D of hard knocks that there is a fine line--and real difference---between telling God what you want and asking him what you need. In other words, just because he allows something to happen, that doesn’t necessarily mean it was in his best interest for you. (What do you think we need so much grace and mercy for?---Hebrews 4:16) To be a mature and responsible follower of Christ, one must work to understand what it means to be in God’s will vs. our own.Oh, you better believe that I am still a huge work in progress when it comes to this, but as I’m moving from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18), I did want to share with you something that God shared with me this past week about this very issue. As I’ve been going to the Lord, sometimes broken and in tears, about his will for my life, it has been amazing the one word that continues to resonate within my space: wait. Oh, why couldn’t he give me a word, any word, than that? I HATE WAITING. But I must admit that in the process of doing it, I am learning a lot about the nature of God. In waiting, my heart is getting stronger (Psalm 27:14) and in doing so, I have been spared from the cycle of foolishness that I used to find myself caught up in on a regular basis, mostly because I moved in haste (Proverbs 20:22); not his will, but my will was done. Another plus is that now, in moments when I want to “throw caution to the wind” (have you ever thought about how crazy that sounds?—Psalm 1:4), the Holy Spirit will bring something to my attention that causes me again to deny myself and trust in God, even and especially when my senses don’t see where he’s leading me (which is really what genuine faith is all about---Hebrews 11:1).With that said, last week, I was talking to a friend of mine about something she wanted and she said, “I know it will come to pass if it’s God’s will.”Without giving it much thought I said, “Not necessarily. God respects choice and so if you or someone else chooses against his instruction, there is no guarantee it will happen.”Her response? “Shellie, doesn’t that mean you have a lack of faith?”I replied, “I mean, do you think it was God’s will that the Woman eat that fruit?”That wasn’t me. That was the Holy Spirit speaking through me.We both sat in silence for a moment and in the quiet I must admit that it really got me to thinking. How many times have I so ignorantly and lazily walked through life saying, “I will get that job if it’s God’s will”; “I will get that man if it’s God’s will”; “I will move to that place if it’s God’s will”? Does God have more power than I have wisdom? Most definitely. (I Corinthians 2:5) But does he respect the power of choice, even when it’s against his perfect will? Don’t take my word for it. Just ask Eve, Adam, Jacob, David and Samson (for starters).GOD: “Shellie, just because I know the thoughts and plans that I have for your life (Jeremiah 29:11), that does give you automatic access to them. There is a price that must be paid. To receive my will, you must be in my will.”How do we get into the will of our Father?“We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.”---Romans 8:28 (AMP)How do we show God that we love him?“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”---John 14:21 (NKJV)Did you catch that? When we love Christ and keep the commandments of God, it is then that God’s love, through Christ, is manifested. In other words, when we do what God tells us to, it is then that his purpose for our lives is revealed.“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.”---Ephesians 1:11-12 (NKJV)There’s just no way around it. We have to abide in Christ, while living with a surrendered soul to God for our true, godly purpose to be made known. When we do, it is then that we have the spiritual discernment to even begin to fathom what to ask God in a way that will grant us the desires of a pure heart. (Psalm 37:4, John 14:14)That’s the good news; however, there is another side to this message. There are many people who, as we speak, are moving forward (or backwards, based on how you look at it) assuming that what they are doing is the will of God and it is nothing but the will of their flesh. For them, until they repent (Romans 2:4—AMP), nothing but chaos and destruction is in their future:“For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God's will] shall perish (end in ruin and come to nought).”---Psalm 1:6 (AMP)According to this verse, anyone outside of the will of God is considered to be “ungodly”. Now let’s look at another way the “ungodly” are defined:“We also know that the law is not made for good people but for those who are against the law and for those who refuse to follow it. It is for people who are against God and are sinful, who are unholy and ungodly, who kill their fathers and mothers, who murder, who take part in sexual sins, who have sexual relations with people of the same sex, who sell slaves, who tell lies, who speak falsely, and who do anything against the true teaching of God.”---I Timothy 1:9-10 (NCV)Whew! Do you know many times I’ve prayed, gone to church, paid my tithes, even partook in ministries and assumed I could go boldly to the Father with my wish list believing that it was in line with his will while I was committing sexual sin, telling lies (to others and especially myself) and going against God’s teachings? Do you know how many times I’ve done these things all the while assuring myself of the fact that God’s will would come to pass regardless?Oh Father, how I repent! (I John 1:9) Oh, how I see how much I need the Holy Spirit in my life, especially when it comes to your will for me."So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.”---Romans 8:26-27 (AMP)As a result of this revelation, I am finding that I pray less and less for persons, places and things and more for a heart change, not just for myself, but those around me that I love and desire great things for. It is because of this revelation that I realize that it’s time for me to stop romanticizing the notion of “If it’s meant to be, it will happen” as if I play no role in my destiny, one way or the other. It was God’s will (for instance), that I remain a virgin until marriage (Ephesians 5:3). It was God’s will that I would not get pregnant out of wedlock (Hebrews 3:14) and if I did, it was God’s will that I would not terminate any of my pregnancies (Exodus 20:13). Do you really think that because those things happened that they were simply “meant to be”? The beautiful thing about God is that he redeemed me and gave me a powerful testimony from these experiences (I Timothy 4:14-16---AMP), but I should never disillusion myself with the notion that because it happened, he wanted and/or willed it to.“Foolish dreamers live in a world of illusion; wise realists plant their feet on the ground.”---Proverbs 14:18 (Message)“But against all illusion and fantasy and empty talk there's always this rock foundation: Fear God!”---Ecclesiastes 5:7 (Message)What’s an illusion? It’s “something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality”. God’s Word says that a mature believer is a huge supporter of reality:“It's best to stay in touch with both sides of an issue. A person who fears God deals responsibly with all of reality, not just a piece of it.”---Ecclesiastes 7:18 (Message)One huge “reality check” for me was the Amplified Version of Galatians 6:7:“Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.”God will not allow his precepts to be set aside. Family, no matter what we want or choose to put our faith and energy into, God means what he says. There are several instances in my life where Psalm 1:6 was right; where my ungodliness brought forth death although Christ’s will for me was abundant life (John 10:10)…where my will took the place of my Father’s. Nothing good or lasting ever comes from that.I am not sharing this to depress anyone, but I am hoping that it will provide you with another perspective the next time you go to God about something you want, before you move assuming that he is in agreement, or even before you so casually reference “God’s will” working in your life when your actions dictate that you are actually working against it. You can believe something all day long, but faith without works is dead (James 2:17). The truth (John 8:32) is that for you to see and receive God’s will, you have to be willing to following it. This means that you have to be obedient to his laws and his ways.No wonder we are instructed to request that God’s will be done (Matthew 6:10). No wonder even Christ himself had moments when he had to pray, even when it cost him something dear, about this very thing. (Matthew 26:42) It is a real challenge to consistently put God’s will over our flesh, but once we accept that no one has the power to retain the spirit over the spirit (Ecclesiastes 8:8) we begin to understand why it takes a real surrender of self to have God’s will fully manifested in our lives. It takes a huge leap of faith (Hebrews 11:6) to put God’s best before our wants, trusting that he what he has in mind supercedes anything we could conjure up (Ephesians 3:20). And, it takes a real maturity to understand (and accept) that unless we unite ourselves with like-minded people (Matthew 18:20, I Corinthians 15:33), no matter how much we want something for or with someone, we/they just might not get it. Unless they are surrendered to God, they cannot clearly see God’s will for them and no matter how much God or we may want otherwise, the power of choice is powerful and they have every right to choose life (in God’s will)…or death (out of God’s will). Only a man who fears God can be taught in the way that God chooses. (Psalm 25:12) This is why the righteous are advised to choose their friends wisely (Proverbs 12:26).So what do we do in the meantime about those in our path who may not be in God’s will? We love them (I Corinthians 13:4) and we stay righteous while expecting our prayers to work miracles! (I Peter 3:12). The hope that we do have is that the prayers of a morally upstanding person has power (James 5:16) because when we are obedient, we are in God; when we are in God, that is when we link ourselves up to his power source; that is when we receive supernatural understanding (Psalm 147:5), the death sentence of things can be suspended (Psalm 79:11), we are given the strength to endure tough times (Psalm 68:35), and we can speak life into a situation (Proverbs 18:21)!This can be hard work at times but it’s worth it:“For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness--in conformity to God's will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God].”---Hebrews 12:11 (AMP)As we enter into another week, think about all of the things you have been claiming while assuming it was the will of God simply because you wanted it. Ask God to show you what was spoken in flesh and what was truly an unction of the Holy Spirit. Your lifestyle is a good place to start when it comes to discerning the difference between the two. And then, like King Solomon, purpose in your mind to seek wisdom more than anything else (I Kings 3:4-15). God is full of light (I John 1:5) and he has no desire to keep his children in the dark. It is in wisdom that we get a clearer understanding of what God’s will is for our lives (Proverbs 2:5-7), and how/if we are working for or against it.Bottom line? If you want God’s will, you must fully surrender your own. That is the only way to see what was “meant to be”, according to him, for you; something that you couldn’t come up with on your own, no matter how much you willed it.“He who despises the word will be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.”---Proverbs 13:13 (NKJV)“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise..”---Hebrews 10:35-36 (NKJV)

Are You Static or Dynamic?

“And what about us? Why do we put ourselves in danger every hour? I die every day.”---I Corinthians 15:30-31 (NCV)

“When you are through changing, you are through.”---Bruce Barton

Are you staying open? (Psalm 119:18) I hope so.

I don’t know about you, but since really focusing on that word (in a spiritual sense), life has gotten really interesting for me. For instance, a couple of days ago, I had to go to a computer training class. Please believe that it took everything in me to remain “open” about it (I hate that kind of stuff!), but had I not, I would have missed the message that I’m about to share; one that will be relatively brief. (Merry Christmas, Cory!)

As the techie was taking us, via teleconference, through various sections of the site, he said something that caused my director to make fun of me (in a good way). Of course, because the truth makes you free (John 8:32) and God detests liars (Proverbs 6:16-17), I must admit that I wasn’t listening as intently as I probably should have been. Therefore, I can’t recall what the woman asked that prompted him to give this response. Either way, whatever she said, I’m glad that she did:

Techie: “Well, is your site ‘static’ or ‘dynamic’?”

The Lady: (Dead air)

Techie: “That’s a technical term that means is your website the same every time people go to it or does it change with every visit or when they refresh it?”

That was when my director smiled because he saw my mind racing. “Oh, I’ll bet where gonna see a devotional on this one.” (See, why you’ve gotta watch what comes out of your mouth?---Proverbs 18:21)

As I got to thinking, I found myself really falling in love with that terminology. When you are ‘static’, you are “lacking movement, development, or vitality”. Every time someone sees you, calls you or talks to you, you are always on the same stuff, or as my dad puts it, you need to “flip over your tape because everyone has already heard that side.” You’re always complaining about the same things (Philippians 2:14), you always have the same insights and philosophies (Isaiah 43:19) and your life always seems to be stagnate when it comes to vision, purpose and progression. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Oh, but when you are ‘dynamic’, you are “characterized by energy or effective action; vigorously active or forceful; energetic”. Again, I JUST LOVE THAT!

Does the word “forceful” make you nervous? It shouldn’t. If you abide in Christ, you dwell in the presence of the Father (John 15:5) and the Word says that, “…from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Matthew 11:12) Being a dynamic person is being a godly person, but it ain’t for the weak-minded, it ain’t for the lazy, it ain’t for the spiritually passive, it ain’t for punks.

When you make the conscious effort to be led by the Spirit, you make the decision to become one of the sons (or daughters) of God (Romans 8:14). God is righteous IN ALL HIS WORKS (Daniel 9:14); God is able (Luke 3:8); God is Spirit (John 4:24), God is holy (I Corinthians 3:17); God is not (merely) in Word but in power (I Corinthians 4:20); God is faithful (I Corinthians 10:13), GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION…or DRAMA…or CYCLIC BEHAVIOR (I Corinthians 14:33); God is not mocked (Galatians 6:7); God is good (I Timothy 4:4); God is not forgetful of good works (Hebrews 6:10); God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:12); God is light (John 1:5); God is greater than our hearts (I John 3:20), God is love (I John 4:16).

To become these things, to be a reflection of our Father, this requires constant change, this requires forceful effort (of the spirit against the flesh---Galatians 5:17), this requires being dynamic----this requires dying to ourselves daily so that we can become like God---so that we can receive the benefits of godly living:

“For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”---Ephesians 2:10 (AMP)

So, no plans for this weekend? I hope this motivates you to CHANGE your mind. As for me, I look forward to having a DYNAMIC one! Life’s too short to cling to STATIC. (Proverbs 27:1)
